Italy Is Leader in Organic Farming

Organic foodItaly has been proclaimed “Country of the Year” at BioFach, an international organic farming trade fair in Nuremberg, Germany.
According to ICE, the Italian Chamber of Commerce, the organic farming sector in Italy accounts for an annual turnover of 1.7 billion Euros with exports reaching 700 million Euros and involves about 50,000 farmers. 30% of over one million hectares of organic farming land is located in the Southern regions of Puglia and Sicily. Italian Wines in Tour in the USA

Italy was the biggest wine exporter to the USA for volume and value in 2006. A coast-to-coast wine tour presenting Italy’s top wines is scheduled to start in New York today. This is the fifth year edition of an event that has become a must for wine experts. 

The first tasting in New York will showcase over 50 top Tuscan wines, the so called Super Tuscans.  This will be followed by a gala event on February 15 that will present over 400 premium wines and other culinary delicacies from 60 Italian producers. (more…)
